Ok say you need a disk of quartz, it sure as not as expensive as that.

I spent a lot time messing with some ni-chrome IR heaters and I know from experience that Pyrex glass melts. Im curious why no one has brought up quartz.

Hi All,
I have been working on my feed pump for a year or two. Its working like it should. I can turn the crankshaft freely by hand and the feed pump goes to about 4000psi.
Check out the videos and you will see what im talking about.

Ive got something that can operate under those conditions. I would recommend uniflow/williams with exhaust side porting. The discharge orifice for the injector has a diameter of 3/16in with built in variable valve lift to throttle.

Hi Kyleborg,
all work really falls to 1). the designer and 2). the operator. ??? I guess I would be considered the designer and operator.
this rule comes from any steam code. For example being the operator without understand limits. I have read quite a few boiler operator prep guide. They will discuss things like "boiler trim" .
That considered steam automobiles, do not gene

I used to give Jim Crank(he never cared) a hard time on the forum. Its very fortunate for me to have interacted with him on this forum for years. I learned a lot, and some of his knowledge was absorbed by me. What Im trying to say that over several years his knowledge base was absorbed by me and he did influence the evolution of my design. I hate to be redundant but to the best explanation of the

Just to keep things in perspective there are two other heating systems, one is very high pressure for the injective flash steam, next the engine cylinder @400f, then a contact with superheated low pressure device.

On the particular system I have experience with is nothing short 3/8 thick wall copper tubing. The circuit is not pressurized and circulated with a thermal heat transfer fluid. I do not use convection circulation can run a circulation pump use oil for thermal transfer. Needless to say if the thermal transfer fluid came in contact with the burner things would get bad real fast.

Ok I will try to post again...
The final say is fit and function. this falls with the operator and designer. I have ALOT of parts but I just take the part and do final machining. I have "blanks" that require final machining and is done "in house".

Im going to support Scott on this one. Had I believed there was such an actual thermal loss, I would be going about corn burner is cheaper to run.

Silver Brazing
Each coil will have connections to other tubing or drum at the top of the boiler. This is a position within the boiler shell and at the top most part of the assembly along with the farthest from the flame. The only silver brazing at the bottom will be to the drum and away from direct flame/heat.
I ran into the problem with the silver brazing on one of my heat exchanger c

The best place to start with custom CAD 3D model and assy drawings. Where your going to run into problems is that the the machinist will like to make a large batch say one hundred of each piece.
At least if you have drawings, you can shop around.

We have boycott stuff going on because the artists committed suicide, Kurt Cobain and Chris Cornel.
So we have other artists in the mix.

I have seen a fair ideas, I can tell you if you go to a steam meet at some point you will realize the person who has ideas, and its person to ideas, which just participating in the event. TomK has told me this for years it wasn't till after I went to a meet until I understood what he was trying to say.

My safety release is no more than 2800psi. When you are using direct hydraulic driven pressure the pulse needs to be overbuilt so that why the check valve has double the pressure. I have worked on systems that are at 2400 psi C25. active gas pressure. If you have worked on that gas pressure you wouldn't be throwing numbers like that. Incidentally all the test runs I do are not public. Behind close

Ron I am very impressed with your reply's, they are well thought out.
so have a good relief valve and "top blow"
I am actually using a safety/relief at the highest point in my direct injection system.
I'm using a feed-pump coupled to my engine.
At this point I am matching the gear ratio by the #35 chain sprockets trying 3 different sprockets on the feed pump. The sprock

Probably should post this, but Im making lots of steam. and after using the argon tank thats how she runs.
this is an early stage. But I figure you guys can separate the demo... There is lots of steam in the first part of the video. and a dynamic test with argon.

That is highly unlikely that they would be able to do that
That may be true. I think this is where rocket science meets steam engines. I have looked at many rocket engines and I wonder how the hell they bent the tubing for that.

I have a 1 pipe that needs to fit precisely, it has a helix about 3 turns, then is routed to its connections.
The only way I will be able get the proper fit just hand the CAD files to the CNC bender and what not could be established is done..

When you insert your 3d model is it possible to rotate and zoom areas.
Its been something I have been working on recently. Here is an example where the model can be rotated from its image and there is no requirement of the program.
