https was causing issues. Temporarily its use is not being forced, so users can access this forum.
There may be more down time in the next few weeks as Michael works to get https and the forum playing nice.

Reuben,
You really should see Tom Kimmel's collection of engines, and steam autos. Unless something has changed in the last four years, he has about seventy engines (guess), from weedeater size to 12 bore stationary. Several are IC conversions.

47 ohms is really low if supplied with 6 volts (400 to 470 ohms is more like it), and the green led will need a lower value.

What has the FIA got to do with it?
Why is the Stanley effor recognized, and not Jim Crank?
My point is there is always something to pick apart, if someone wishes to do so.
The speed is the speed that there are witnesses to.

If the discussion stayed on science, physics, and engineering, nothing would get removed, but this isn't the case. A few forum members insist on attacking certain other companies and/or individuals just to get a snipe in.
Forum administrators (there are four of us now) generally remove threads or messages with personal attacks no matter how much good information goes with it, oh well! FUD

sidrug,
Hydraulic valve lifters have a controlled leakdown port built in. Oil pressure removes the space that makes noise. As the lifter is raised by the cam lobe, the leakdown port is covered, no more oil is bypassed, and the lifter (for all intents and purposes) becomes solid.

The restriction on U-tube is intentional, as are some other external links.
The forum is slow due to the host we are on, this can be corrected.
Why Jim has a problem with looking at back issues is an unknown.
When Ken gets a new host, has a new site set up, and is ready to transfer the forum, he can use any software he wants for the forum.

Except for the hot clinkers raining down from the sky, it is more efficient to burn powdered coal in the engines, bypassing the conversion losses dealing with steam.
You need to locate a chart that shows volume required per unit for all of your fuels.
Coal requires about 40 cu. ft. per ton. Net heating value is 26,000,000 btu per ton.
#2 fuel oil @ 115,000 btu per gallon = 226 gal / 7.48 =

Ken,
Excellent presentation essay, and a valuable addition to the site.
One minor addition I would make is a "materials" person with experience in various metal alloys, steam, and flue gas at the temperatures expected.
