The 10 inch drum should be at least Sch 80 A-106 Not code. For a working pressure of 600 PSI. For the drum to be Code it should be 3.5 times the working pressure. Closer to Sch 100.

Your right Chuck it is not an easy task if you do not have the correct bender.
Rod Teel SACA-NE built a beautiful bender that would do the job
It has since been destroyed. Not sure how.
The thing is that most guys don’t realize is there are pipe bending shops around that will sell the pipe all bent to order as cheap or cheaper then you can buy the pipe locally.

Laminar verses turbulent flow
Actually a firetube boiler the combustion gases are going through the tubes in a laminar flow, and because of the shape of the tube being rolled in at the tube sheet more or less a sharp edge this acts as a very poor venturi entrance. The gasses tend to confine themselves to the center of the tube and increase in speed as they travel up the tube.

All water in a boiler boils, there is always space above the water where the steam cushions the expansion creating pressure.
If there were no steam and space the water would hydraulic and burst the pressure vessel with almost no heat, as water expands in volume very fast when

The Baker boiler is not a very easy boiler to duplicate but looks to be a very good steam generator. The center generating steam coil to the engine is actually two separate coils wound together. Not easy to do. I was thinking of making a model, but it would have to come apart or all you would see is what would appear to be is a coil of pipe.

I only worked on one nuclear reactor, it’s basically a tank of water with the reactor rods (core) inside the tank and a bank of circulating pumps around the tank circulating the water around the core in the middle of the tank. I seam to remember it being a sixteen inch wheel double turbine rows with a single stator in between. Like the one I had.
They built a new housing and bearing assembly from aluminum.
I remember coping photos but can’t seam to find them.
I forgot how many nozzles they used. Mine had five with plugs in the casing for more.

Ken the three power plants I worked on with steam turbines did not inject cylinder oil into the steam. They were all super critical steam plaints. 3600 and 4000 PSI’
The forth was nuclear, also no oil. I did one other plant with two 600 KW steam turbines at 4160, no oil in the steam.
The only reason for oil injection in the steam is if the auxiliary equipment is piston steam operated. I did ren

Maple is considered an inside wood, used for a lot of furniture. Very good hard wood for inside but is prone to rot from the inside out when used outside much like red oak.
But today they make a lot of sealing epoxys. Total Boat Penetrating Epoxy is one, a wet epoxy that soaks deep into the wood, mostly used to repair rotten wood.

Hickory is what axe handles are made from, very strong and will flex. Good outdoor wood. Much like white oak, closed cell.
But there is nothing wrong with white ash, will flex well, a lot of tool handles are made from ash.

There are several advantages.
The fire tube of a Stanley, the heat (Hot gases) travel up the tube in Laminar flow staying mostly in the center of the tube relying on radiant transfer of the heat to the boundary layer of the tube and the top part of the tube is not covered with water.

I use to set the throttle setting on the J33 jet engines used in some of our cruse missiles when I was at Cape Canaveral in 1959-60
We used ear protection, nothing like my pulse jet. But that’s not to say some pulse jets may run with less nose or a different frequency.
I’m use to steam plants making very little nose.

Did you ever hear a Pulse jet run. It’s deafening. 65 years ago my brother and I built a five-foot long Pulse Jet engine. It had eight reed valves, and a three inch exhaust tube.
Lots of heat, the whole thing turned cherry red before it ran out of fuel.
You could not stand next to it or at least we could not.

Tooth failure on a gear is not un heard of but is rare. Most often it’s caused by something ales getting in there. Those gears most likely are off the shelf items in England. Any good gear and bearing shop hear may be able to get then in less then a week.
