Good discussion Mark you are on target except you are all missing the tuneing part. Compression does not just occur over the top of the piston but in a tuned tube. This tube is located back into the combustion chamber. This starts to occour above 1000rpm .The difference is dramatic. This is as you would tune an exaust or and intake on an IC engine. Hi Dan Just water rate is not the total reason for efficency as it is total plant efficency that counts. The Cyclone uses heat recouperation and heat regeneration there is a tunning that occours in the exaust recompression . Calculations are not a static measurement but are dynamic as re-compression increases the cylinder temperature above the steam inlet temperature. This tuning is RPMby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Dan That is the fuel burn rate.......... 2545 btu+ 1 hp 2545/ 8,000 btu = .318 or 31.8 % efficency We have already run this rate on the small MK2 engine the MKV is higher. This is full plant efficency not just the engine, Fuel in HP out. Harryby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Dan The cyclone marine and standard automotive engine and generators are 100% condencing, only the LSR car is semi condencing. The condencer only condences about 10% of the steam . Most of the condencing occours at the steam exaust ports where the steam enters heat exchangers then enters a second set of ports to a water spray ( inside the engine block) then to a centrifucal flat plat condencby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Guys We are very pleased with the job Chuk has done on the chassis. We spent enough time to run some draw bar pull tests to confirm the rolling resistance and to check out the final body design with Chuk. From this information we desided to put in the stock auto engine to beat the existing record. We feel there is more credibaly to beat the record with a standard 100hp Cyclone engine as youby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Ernie Always good to hear from you . This type of crank movement is not new. The problems that occours is the short time for valve duration in the intake and inlet portion of the stroke it also has a problem with these type of of roller cam drives is the high piston side loading. Also when the piston is just past top dead center there is a very high vertical load where as a connecting rod iby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Jeremy As we have pointed out before we have achieved over 30% efficency on the dyno. This is TOTAL plant efficency fuel, BTU, in HP out. This was on our small MK 2 engine. I have not seen any gas engine of this size come close to this. What IC engines are going to do in the future is still speculation and multifuel and polution are still a problem. I feel we are closing in fast . The MK 5 hby HLS - SteamStuff
HI Tom We are running prototypes on the dynos We have two dynos and engines are continualy runng a smaller one for the small engines and the larger for the Mark V engine. The WHE ,one of the engines that we brought to the meet is slated for production as it has a lot of running hours. these will be on display in the Power Gen Show in Orlando the middel of this month. The mark 6 engine is stiby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi KY I believe last year that we did publish the MK 2 eng did run over 30% total plant efficency running on diesel fuel this test was sponcered by Ratheon corp. Yes we will release some of the data on the other engines as it becomes avalable . We are running longer runs at the pressent time Harryby HLS - SteamStuff
thanks KY We have just recieved our patent on the spider bearing. This part eleminates the master rod found in many radial engines. It was found early on that there is an inbalance using this method. the spider bearing balances out all these forces. It was necessary to use a radial configuration because of smaller space , stronger , lighter and the most important even heat distribution. An in lby HLS - SteamStuff
We will be joining Chuk at the meet and bring engine parts of the cyclone engines for everyone to see, there has been a lot of progress on these engines. Please come, bringing parts of Chuk's gear box , not his engine but one like it. He needs all our support for for his undertaking. Harryby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Guys Did not want to disturb the info on the steam powered plymouth as I found it very interesting and hope this blog continues. FYI we recieved a couple more US patents for the Cyclone engine. One of them is related to heat transfer and it very important to the condencing and the efficency of the engine. This part works very well as there is a lot of talk of a radiator as a condenceby HLS - SteamStuff
Ernie Hang around here and we will put you to work Harryby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Ernie We still have a lot of dyno tests to do. The boat should take about a week to rig once the engine is ready. the other engines engines will go much faster such as Chuks LSR car engine. The gear boxes are being machined for the car and the boat right now and might be finished in about a week. Wish you could see the engine run It is real impressive to watch the cam work and the speed oby HLS - SteamStuff

Hi Guys This is the Mark V Cyclone engine on a dyno stand doing tests, just wanted to show the combustion chamber with the cover removed This is running on primary air only the secondary air is put in through the small blowers on the lower outer ring through the ports in the ring. there is no smoke , smell and is even cleaner when the cover is installed It burns almost anything the same clean coby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Andy Good to hear from you. As these engines go the higher the pressure and fireing rate the more power that can be achieved. We just finisned dyno-ing a small engine yesterday and the power output was higher than calculated we have to find out why as I like the numbers to match although It was outstanding. The efficency and non poluting are the over welming factors. We would like to sby HLS - SteamStuff
HI Heavy The MK 2 engineis a two cylinder version 9.4 cu inches developed as high as 24 hp. It was run at a varried amount of settings and loads. It was turned up to 4500rpm and over temperatured up to 1500f even pressures as high as 4000psi. of course these were over testing. The engine came in at over 30% thermal efficency total plant efficency at proper operating . BTU in HP out this isby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Heavy There are three different engines under tests. The WHE engine was shipped to Bent Glass for further testing in the field after extensive durability testing here. Anouther one is going on anouther electrical generator for furthur site testing at anouther facility. The S 1 is going on for more dyno testing this week as well as more dyno testing of the MK5. Hi Jeremy I am sorry for the misunderstanding as I have a great deal of respect for your engineering abilities. I had no idea that you were building an EV an was just expressing my opinion. I did not say that you were building a golf cart as I have no knowledge of such. My opinion of anEV has not changed and some think steam will not work O well we move on. This foram is inventors with great idby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Jeremy I was talking about EV not diesel electric which is also not a free ride as the loss between the dynamo and electric motor is about 20% diesel electric trains are about 26% efficent . The steam train pulled better at the 5mph because of the number of cylinders that is why we went to 6 cylinders in the cyclone to get rid of the puff gap. These old steam trains served us well . We feby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Guys I am predjusted in the favor of steam and researched this before doing the cyclone project. I think that battery vehicles are still and will always be a sooped up golf cart. They will never push an 18 wheeler down the road. These little cars do not have the good economy that they claim. It still takes hp to move mass and wind resistance. one of these two passenger EV at a braged at 80mby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Jeremy, The dyno tests of the cyclone are monitored By Ratheon engineers the over 30% that was achieved is the total efficency fuel in (BTU) horsepower out with all accessories. The compression is variable as well as the cutoff and a very responsive throttle. Hope you visit before you leave there is a lot going on. Harryby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Guys An up date.. We just recieved our patent on our centrifugcal condencer . This is one of the main components of the Cyclone engine. Good condencing is a high priority if a total system is going to work. The total engine of course has world wide patents but for furthur protection we are patenting the major individual components. This is the fifth one of these part patents we have recieveby HLS - SteamStuff
Hi Terry We are doing some dyno runs today. This will continue as a number of runs need to be made to collect all the data. The MK2 engine was run on the dyno for 25 runs to varify everything and take readings at different power levels. The MKV is a much more sophistacated engine and so far I am very pleased with the throttle responce and the cuttoff controll which works manualy or automaticalby HLS - SteamStuff
