Flash Steam hydroplane

Hi Anybody:

I received some photos that look just like one of the tether boats illustrated in that "Flash Steam" booklet. It appears the builders were a little off on the scale and neglected to fit a tether.

Does anyone know anything about this boat?

That power plant might have been built by Paul Windross (windy). He is a flash steam tether boat record holder and has been working on a full size version that ran at Coniston Speed Week in 2016. See post #75 at [www.homemodelenginemachinist.com] There are some other references as well, but I haven't heard from Paul for the last few years.

That would make perfect sense. It looks just like the model, tethered boat.

I would question how scale-able the tethered boat is to a full size. The way the boundary layer works in the 3/16 tube in the tethered boat is amazing. The water rate required in a full size boat doesn't really work with a 3/16" mono-tube.

I would guess that this is the reason why we aren't hearing much about the success of this boat. Just saying...
