Here is a picture of a know Mason Engine (mounted in a buggy). Note that the frame has two (2) locations for pumps. Also, a distinct feature is that the valve crank rods have ball bearings in stead of a slip bearing. Last is that the cross head is suspended on 2 balls, bearing. This is very similar to my 10 Hp Stanley considered a dry engine. The Mason is a more robust casting as compared to a Locomobile. This Mason has drain cocks on the back side, you can't see from the picture.
Then is a picture of a Locomobile engine (Laying down) with thermal rings around the cylinder. Supposed to help hold the heat. It only has one location for the water pump.
Then is a picture of a Locomobile engine in a box.
In general, everyone was copying the others with the engines, changing some little thing to escape any patent.
