20th year on the web for SACA

The Steam Automobile Club of America has now had a web presence for Twenty Years, and will be 62 or 63 years old sometime in 2020. (Two different dates are indicated on the static web site.) sad smiley

The following are my opinions, and not official SACA statements.

Not much has changed over the years except the loss of participants in the discussions. Many of the early participants have passed on, and some of the others do not wish to participate here any longer, a loss for everyone.

The Forum software while functional, and secure, is not being updated by the developers on an organized and planned basis. Even though we have been using it for 20 years, it has had fewer security issues than most of the other message boards, whether open source, or purchased.

The main website is static, and suffers from the same issues it has had since the beginning, few / no contributions of new content, and no one interested in updating / maintaining it. The last major revamp/upgrade was supposed to fix many of the web site issues, making it easier to keep up to date, yet it has not worked out that way.

Oh I have been working on my forum Fieldlines Gosh we have been going back and forth for months now. FINALLY we got everything working. We hire a coder believe it or not he is in Italy. Long story short we payed some money.

I been messing with the sites over 12 years, but only in the last 6 have I figured out how to do things with out screwing up something..

Of all the things that you can do best for a forum that ive learned is..... PUT UP ADS

We just display them on on the top of some pages, never inline.

How I do it is have a bank account they test deposit and once to resend the amount they verify your bank account and the ad revenue is deposited electronically.

The attendance goes up because people are looking for things and that draws them to your forum. one word adsense

Hi Scott,
Thank you for all you do with the Forum! It is just right for me, an antiquated old fart.

I still have a few years to kick around with so I'll keep on posting.

Kind regards,
Rick

Well, I certainly want to thank Scott for managing the Forum so ably. That's the lesser part, however, he more especially deserves our thanks for creating the SACA website originally. I have no idea how many members have originally found out about the club through this venue, but it's undoubtedly one important factor in keeping the club afloat.
