The images aren't available (today). I was hoping to see a steam tank. That would be cool.

There was also a study performed, I think it was back in the 50s or 60s, regarding the use of steam in a modified M-60 tank! That machine did pretty good in the hands of the USMC during Desert Storm and upgraded versions are still in use around the world.

The Stanley Steam Motor Company built a couple of steam powered tanks for the WWI effort. By the time that they were field tested and accepted, the war was over. They never see action. There are plenty of photos and articles about the Stanley tanks available.

Well, if people had paid attention and used a bit more imagination, the trench warfare that broke out during the siege of Petersburg during the US Civil War could have been eliminated with tank warfare … WW1 would have been a bit different.

Note, this wasn't a fanciful design, Miller actually built and tested this tracked vehicle. It was said to operate well on rough terrain and up hills.

Of course, Miller himself missed the point, which is sort of interesting. During the war, he patented a naval gun turret that was rotated by steam engines ... with modern hindsight it's a bit interesting that he overlooked the idea of mounting it on his tracked vehicle.

Yuba steam turbine air cooled condensing powerplant study for the M-48 Tank.
Steam generator pressure- 5000 psi, temperature -1200F;
Exhaust steam 20 psi at full power, 5.3 psi -cruise power.
Theoretical efficiency-39.6%. Fuel - coal, heavy oil, wood.
