Stuff to go.

Stuff to go.
September 16, 2015 11:39AM
I’ve been cleaning out my shop to move.
I have some good stuff to let go.

Most of a 3 X 5 X 4 compound marine engine.
Cylinders with top and bottom covers.
Valve boxes and covers.
Eccentrics and straps.
Cross heads back plates, machined flywheel.
Valves and connecting rods.

I also have the patterns for the base and connecting rods and some other parts.

No drawings. But it’s a simple engine to figure out. These are extra parts from 50 years ago.

Also nice brass gauges
2-250 PSI
1-250 PSI no glass
1-600 PSI
1-140 PSI
2-60 PSI
1-minous 30 plus 15 vacuum
1 – two needles double 400 PSI

Also copper pipe eight inch diameter 0.200 wall. 20 inches long.
Six inch diameter 0.125 wall. 36-1/4 long

Also some three inches and four inch copper pipe.

I will not cut. All my band saws are goon.

Hi Rolly,

You're moving too? Where to?

What's up with everybody [including me] moving recently?

The large copper pipes were scraped yesterday. Brought $250

100 board feet of black walnut and 200 board feet of old growth long leaf southern yellow pine along with the engine castings and patterns and some other stuff went to our local trade school.
The shop teachers were very pleased. They came with a big truck and did all the work of carrying it out and loading the truck.

Now I have to find a home for eight 4 X 8 sheets of 1/8 masonite or cut it up for the scrape yard..
When I built my 35-foot boat I painted one side flat white and lofted the hull out full size before I cut all the aluminum.

Hi Rolly,

200 board-feet of old-growth Southern Pine, that is a magnificent bequest. I am glad to hear that it was appreciated by the recipients. In my last house, all the upstairs floors, and 1" dimensional stair treads on both staircases, were circa-1916 Southern Pine, clear and straight/fine grain, quarter-sawn. In the one room where I did a full floor-sanding/restoration, the floor was gorgeous. It is wonderful, wonderful wood. Even as "salvage wood", it is practically a semi-precious gem, an historic treasure. It is well to see it going to a good cause, and properly appreciated by up-and-coming wood connoisseurs.

Yes Peter
They were 30-foot long 10 inch wide I-1/4 thick quarter sawed. I built my first 25 foot steamboat from the stuff. Still have it. Need to get rid of it also. I do know one shop making flooring when they find it. Rare stuff today. Not many people know what it is today.
