FURNACE COMBUSTION

Hi Gentlemen,

The other day I was speaking to a friend on the subject of Boilers, and he was of the opinion that Water tube boilers were a problem in keeping the tubes clean, and the necessity to use a water blaster to clean them regularly. The fuel being used was Coal. I was shocked when hearing of this and would be grateful if some of you learned Gentlemen would through some light on the subject of combustion.

He is correct, coal burning boilers of any sort require regular cleaning. However, "regularly" can be at intervals as long as several weeks, and is not a serious issue in the cost of running the boiler. The same problem occurs when burning the heavier fuel oils, like #6 bunker oil.
