Well-
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted to this thread! And a very long thread it is too-all ideas and contributions from people interested in this obsession of ours-steam. The USLSR-is a great dream-bringing the Land Steam Record back to the USA!
After lots of soul-searching and thinking about this long term Record-seeking Project, I’ve come to realize that I cannot stay focused on it any longer. It’s been almost 15 years since I became interested in going for the Record, and now I’m losing interest. Designing, building, and then running the streamliner at Bonneville took a lot of planning, sweat, and time…and with all the help from everyone, the Project flowed smoothly toward our goal. Even though we didn’t set a new Record, we came close enough to realize that the extra ¼ throttle I had left would have carried us considerably past the existing Record. I’m really proud of what we accomplished as a team, including all those who were directly involved as well as those who contributed and supported us from a distance.
The progress toward the new effort to design, build, and run a new streamliner for the Record has been slow going. The search for a new engine has taken us to a few dead ends, and has worn down my effectiveness. Faced with the thought of another 2-4 years of building and development, I feel like the Project has become work instead of fun. This is a time in my life when I want to focus on projects that have been left on the back burner for years.
This has been my greatest adventure, and I thank everyone for your support and help in making it happen!!
