The front "grille" was cut from a sheet of gold color anodized aluminum expanded metal. The pattern is quite small and not very open, and was available locally for architectural trim in the '60s.

I see that Hasbrouck has a 2 cyl DA marine engine 2" x 2.5", though it might be a little tall to sit upright under the seat of the Educator. Since it is built up from stock, shortening the stroke 1/2" would shorten the engine by an inch, so it can be reduced.

I was looking at internet videos of that exact Hasbrouck motor last night and was also noticing it would be abit tall. . I was thinking about putting in a recessed motor box either fore or aft of the rear axle so the engine crank sprocket would be parallel to the rear differential. or making it a horizontal engine. I need to find someone with a 9" or larger lathe. That engine plan doesn't come with an feedwater pump. One of the lessons I have learned in life is that it takes less time to make 3 items together in a batch as it does to make 2 sequentially. I wonder if anyone besides me and you would want one.

I went down to the Canyon County dept of motor vehicles today and got details of the requirements needed to make the Educator to be a legal road vehicle, the list is not that bad. I have a follow up appointment scheduled later in the week to make sure i have exact specifics. The list is mainly: brakes, lights, horn (or whistle), mirrors, and insurance. The Idaho state govt has changed some of the laws in the last year or so regarding light vehicles. It must have been about the time gas prices spiked over $4.16 per gallon.

Here is a photo of my Simplicator (Educator). Notice the BREAD BOX in the background and how similar it is to the shape of the front of the Simplicator.

Progress will be updated at

[steamsimplicator.blogspot.com]

My goal is to have it running for less than US$2 000

Then if it works, I plan to build a pretty one.
