Check Your Oil Feed!
I had a serious failure in my Stanley this spring, which totally destroyed a new set of piston rings in about fifty miles. What it would have done to slide valves is beyond description!
The quill which feeds the cylinder oil into the steam line coked up to the point of being totally blocked, which unfortunately had no effect on the blinker!
I suggest that removing and checking the quill should be a part of the spring ritual of getting a car ready for the season. At the same time, the lubricator should be operated with the end of the line in view to assure that oil is getting through.
