Hi All,

Check out the new Doble book by Barry Herbert which has just become available.

I have just started reading my copy and its a great read with loads of pictures and technical information all wrapped around a personal story of Barry's determination to get his two Dobles in perfect running condition.

The print run was for a limited number so get yours before they all go, see www.steamcar.net 'For Sale' page.

All the best, Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the heads up, it looks interesting. £35 or U.S. $59 is a good price to boot.

This looks fantastic; it's about time another Doble book came out! What I like about this is that it also covers the restoration of E-22, which is probably my favorite Doble. I'll have to get myself a copy of this! Thanks for letting us know.

My copy of "A Tale of Two Dobles" arrived today and I cannot put it down. It is a great read and a very necessary book to have in your steam library.

Barry's book is just great. Had to laugh at the horror stories, as I too went through the same thing.
Actually, his book and mine will nicely compliment each other. He concentrated on what he did restoring his two cars and mine deals with all the rest of the Doble story.
Absolutely essential for any steam car enthusiast to have. BUY IT.

Got my copy yesterday, read it cover to cover while my CNC mill peck drilled 498 0.99mm holes 10mm deep in glass reinforced epoxy board. Paint drying is more entertaining but I have to monitor the mill in case the drills pick up, so I had five hours to read sitting and changing out No61 drills.
Result BUY THE BOOK. A marvelous explanation of Dobles high performance steam and the work required to get great steam cars right. I've seen both of Barry's Dobles at the Australian steam car rallies and he writes exactly as it happened failures successes etc.
Makes me glad to know the few Doble parts I owned are back in circulation helping these great vehicles specifically E19 E11 stay mobile and perform as they should.
Cheers

I'm going to get a copy of this; my only other book on the subject is the Walton book which I have treated like a Bible since I got it in '70 as a birthday gift from my first wife.

My only memories of direct contact surround Barney Becker's E-14 which I had several rides in. Also, I saw the Doble in the (long defunct) Harrahs' collection which was taken out and run at the SACA meet in Reno in ?? (some time in the early '70's). Also, I visited the Nethercutt Auto Museum in '06 and they have some really good Doble items, including a cutaway and a complete car. Note to Easterners and others: Be sure to visit the Nethercutt if you get into the LA area--it's (unbelievably IMO!) FREE and has some very important cars on display.

Dear Bill, You will have to go to Jay Leno's to see Nethercutt's Dobles now. Jay Leno just bought both of them. He will take good care of them. If any of his cars break down, he can afford to fix them, and he will too.

I just finished reading Barry's book on his two Doble's. I'd like to thank Barry for taking the time and effort to collect and transcribe all of his efforts, work, worrying, networking, etc. on his restoration. It was really a reading pleasure.
Now, Jim...My appetite has really been tweaked! I sure hope that your efforts to secure a publisher for your Doble book is making progress...I want to be the first one to receive a copy when it gets published!.

Regards,
Bob

To those of you in the US. How long did it take to get your Doble book after you ordered it?

Keep your steam up,

Terry

Terry
I believe that it was about 2 weeks, although it has been 2 months since I received my copy.
As I didn't expect it soon, I was pleased when it did arrive.
